Our only child (Reform Jewish) plans on marrying a very sweet lady in SoCal who is Roman Catholic with two young children.  This will be her second marriage.  Any children they have together will be raised as Jews.
It’s important that we have a rabbi and a priest.  I understand that the groom’s family pays for officiants, and I’m disabled and we’re barely making it financially.  I’ve read it can cost hundreds of dollars for each officiant, and I’m very concerned it would be unaffordable.  We belong to a congregation in AZ, but even if one of our rabbis were to perform it for less cost, we’d still have to pick up his expenses to fly him to the Coast.
Any ideas?

Mazel tov on your son’s upcoming wedding. has an officiant referral service, which is free:

Please fill out the above form and then we will email you a list of rabbis and cantors.  The officiants on our service are at different price points.  I would recommend calling the rabbis and cantors on the list to see how they can work with you.

Traditionally, the groom’s family did pay for the officiant, but in recent years who pays for what can be flexible.  The officiants who work with are incredibly understanding, but a lot of them would like wedding families to understand that they often make their living by officiating at simchot, or happy occasions.
