As a Jew in a gay interfaith, interracial relationship, I find the question of Israel as almost strange on this website concerned primarily with interfaith relationships.
Although Israel has made great strides in gay rights, it has been extremely poor in terms of granting (or even accepting) Palestinian rights. As an anti-Zionist, I lament the fact that neither Kerry nor Bush present a balanced position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Both candidates are pro-Israel. I am voting for Kerry nonetheless, simply because George Bush has been terrible for this country. But, I am saddened that the duopoly in this country has been so terrorized by the Zionist lobby. We need a president who will elminate all funding to Israel, Egypt and any other foreign country. We need a president who will not take sides in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We need a president who will fight for the right of self-determination for all peoples, not just the Israelis. If the American Jews get offended by this, then let them get offended. As an American Jew, I would greatly applaud a president who would take such a position. So would MANY other Jews who currently get the knee-jerk "self hating Jew" or "anti Semite" response by scared Zionists. |
