Superman Sam

We (Evan Moffic and I) are a rabbi-rabbi couple and family; there are a few others like us in Chicagoland. One of the other ones has four kids. The mom, Phyllis Sommer, is a rabbi at Am Shalom in Glencoe and the dad, Michael Sommer, is a rabbi at B'nai Torah in Highland Park. Their 6-year-old, Sam, was just diagnosed with leukemia. They are sharing their journey via a blog.

They are asking for everybody who learns about their situation to put on a superhero shirt, take a photo and send it to the hospital so that Sam can see that many people from many places are pulling for him and praying for him.

One of the great things about having a Chicagoland page on InterfaithFamily.com is sharing news about what's happening in Chicago in the Jewish world. Telling your children about the mitzvah (commandment) of bikkur cholim (visiting and supporting the sick) and taking part in this project will leave your children with many enduring values. You can also share your photos here and respond with how you talked to your children about this mitzvah.
