A great way for Jewish professionals and volunteers who work with and provide programming for people in interfaith relationships to locate resources and trainings to build more welcome into their Jewish communities; connect with and learn from each other; and publicize and enhance their programs and services.

This full-day workshop will provide clergy with tools to nurture Jewish choices with every engaged couple seeking a clergy connection at this pivotal time in their lives. Clergy participants will gain skills to address each couples’ communication around their religious backgrounds and the meaning of faith in their lives, past, present and future. The workshop will introduce many new ideas for nurturing each couple’s connection to Judaism and reinforcing the Jewish choices couples may make in their lives together.
Introducing the exercises in the CCAR publication, Strengthening Communication and Supporting Jewish Choices: A Premarital Counseling Guide for Clergy (Dr. Paula Brody, author), this training will enable clergy to help each marriage partner to clarify and express their own needs and to understand their partner’s needs, creating a sacred foundation for future marital communication.
Facilitated by Dr. Paula Brody, Director URJ/RJOB Outreach Training Institute with Rabbi Howard Jaffe, Temple Isaiah, Lexington, URJ Expanding Our Reach, National Clergy Liaison. Offered in collaboration with the CCAR – Central Conference of American Rabbis.
While working with their clergy peers, participants will have an opportunity to sharpen their counseling skills by focusing on challenging situations that premarital couples may present. Using scenarios and role plays, this practicum will offer useful tools enabling clergy to help couples strengthen their communication and clarify future choices. Specific suggestions for counseling interfaith and conversionary couples will also be provided.
