MEAD: Meet the Maker & Tasting Tour
Honey and the High Holidays go way back. An ancient sweet tooth can be traced to references of honey sitting on the holiday table in Babylonian writings from the 7th century. Fermented honey-wine, aka mead, is also found in archaeological evidence as an ancestor of wine and beer. Old traditions meet new celebrations this holiday season with modern MEAD!
Explore San Francisco’s urban meadery with maker and owner, Oron Benary. Join the tour for an inside look at the creation of mead. View the production area, learn how mead is fermented, bottled, packaged and more. Enjoy a tasting of handcrafted meads currently available and in the works!
Pro Tip: When you hear biblical references to honey, aka - the land flowing "with milk and honey," this refers to the honey of ancient times that was primarily produced from overripe dates. However, the Torah has a honey bee story too – read up on Samson to get the whole scoop.
The tour facility has limited space, so RSVPs are necessary.
