Description Known in the indie-folk world for her song sourcing from lesser-known stories of Old Testament women, Alicia Jo Rabins gives a talk on writing music about biblical women and presents her new song about Hagar commissioned by the Contemporary Jewish Museum. Brooklyn-based musician and Torah scholar Alicia Jo Rabins is the frontwoman of Girls in Trouble, a group that has been part of New York’s underground Jewish art scene since their debut album was released on indie-Jewish music label Jdub Records, in 2009. The band began as Alicia's unusual Masters Thesis in Jewish Women's Studies at JTS, and grew into an internationally touring, critically acclaimed rock band who continue to interpret the stories of Torah women, bringing their often-overlooked stories to life in venues ranging from rock clubs in Brooklyn, NY to the Great Synagogue in Stockholm. Presented in conjunction with the Museum’s installation of sculptor Jacques Lipchitz’s last monumental bronze, Hagar in the Desert.
