- JCYS Camp Star serves children 6 - 12 years old. A joint effort by the Hyperactivity, Attention, and Learning Problems Clinic (HALP) at the University of Illinois at Chicago and JCYS, Camp STAR provides quality summer programming for children with ADHD and related disorders by blending an intensive therapeutic program with a fun summer camp experience. Camp STAR, a collaboration between the Hyperactivity, Attention, and Learning Problems (HALP) Clinic at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Jewish Council for Youth Services was founded in 2008 in response to the need for quality summer programming for children with ADHD and related disorders. Camp STAR blends typical camp activities with individualized treatment plans, educational services, parent training sessions, and pharmacological evaluations to create a meaningful and memorable summer camp experience. A joint effort by the Hyperactivity, Attention, and Learning Problems Clinic (HALP) at the University of Illinois at Chicago and JCYS, Camp STAR is one of only 12 programs that follow the Summer Treatment Program, and the only program in Illinois. Andrea Chronis-Tuscano, Ph.D., Clinical Director Dr. Chronis-Tuscano, an internationally-recognized expert on the topic of ADHD, is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the Univ. of Maryland and Director of the Maryland ADHD Program. She is the recipient of several grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and has written over 50 scholarly publications on the topic of ADHD. Dr. Chronis-Tuscano has worked closely with the developer of the Children’s Summer Treatment Program on which Camp STAR is based. She has provided consultation to Camp STAR for several years. This will be her first summer as Clinical Director at Camp STAR. Janine Rosenberg, Ph.D., Assistant Clinical Director Dr. Rosenberg is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology and Director of the University of Illinois Chicago’s Hyperactivity, Attention and Learning Problems (HALP) Clinic. She specializes in the evaluation, testing and treatment of children and adolescents with ADHD and related problems. This is her fifth year with Camp STAR. She will lead the Chicago location Parent Training sessions each week.
