A great way for Jewish professionals and volunteers who work with and provide programming for people in interfaith relationships to locate resources and trainings to build more welcome into their Jewish communities; connect with and learn from each other; and publicize and enhance their programs and services.
Kol Shalom Community for Humanistic Judaism serves the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area, offering a human-centered alternative within Judaism.
Activities include celebrations of Jewish holidays and Shabbat; children's classes (preschool through Bar/Bat Mitzvah) with concurrent adult programs;
life cycle ceremonies; Havdalah potlucks; and interest groups such as an adult education class, a music group, a Yiddish class, a book discussion group, and a very active social action committee. Kol Shalom welcomes all who identify as Jews, non-Jewish spouses or partners, and their children.
Humanistic Judaism provides Jewish cultural experience and a Jewish connection for those whose beliefs are not compatible with theistic rituals.
We honor Jewish tradition, feeling free to reinterpret and refashion ceremonies to make them relevant to our times and to modern knowledge.
