Oraynu Congregation for Humanistic Judaism warmly welcomes and embraces Jews by birth, Jews by choice, and intermarried families who share a secular humanistic world view.
Humanistic Judaism has re-defined Jewish identity, celebration and observance. We are inspired by philosophical readings, poetry and music, rather than prayer. We enrich our lives with Jewish festivals, Shabbat Onegs, lectures, social justice issues, and film/theatre/social events. We cultivate our ties to the Jewish community and the State of Israel.
Our Children's School (JK-Grade 7) focuses on our history, culture and ethics, instilling a strong Jewish identity in the students. Bar/Bat and B'nai Mitzvah are offered, with the ceremony in English. Students choose their own Jewish hero research project; Torah reading is optional.
We are pleased to provide life cycle ceremonies for baby-naming, wedding, funeral, unveiling, adoption/conversion, etc. At our Secular Jewish cemetery section, in addition to traditional burial, both cremation and burial with a non-Jewish partner are available.
For those who identify as secular or cultural Jews, humanist or agnostic, Oraynu provides a way to celebrate your Jewishness with integrity, within a congregational setting. Let Oraynu be your Jewish home!
