Temple Israel of Alameda
About Us:
-
Temple Israel, founded in 1920, is a Reform congregation, affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) since 1985. For 90 years, Temple Israel has provided a Jewish religious cultural, social, and education presence on the island of Alameda.
To enhance the meaning of our lives as Jews, we strive to foster the reciprocal connections between the Temple and its congregants. Children and adults, individuals and families create a multigenerational community participating in traditional religious and social activities, lifelong Jewish learning, and the larger Jewish community.
Temple Israel warmly welcomes interfaith families. More than 50% of our current members are involved in interfaith families. We often have programs geared towards interfaith families and include interfaith families in all aspects of Temple life.
We strive to be a place where people can feel safe and welcome, where everyone can feel a sense of community, identity, and belonging. And despite our small size we try to provide all the services that far larger synagogues offer.
