The following is the text of the Resolution approved by the Board of Trustees of Congregation B'nai Tzedek of Fountain Valley, Calif., on January 13, 2003:
We respectfully request the UAHC leadership to reevaluate and reconsider its decision to eliminate the Regional Outreach Director positions effective March 31, 2003.
We feel it is counterproductive to eliminate Regional Outreach Directors whose jobs are to assist synagogues implement programs that encourage synagogue affiliation.
* We feel it will be impossible for a small New York staff to be able to handle the workload of all the Regional Outreach Directors, as well as the work required on the national level.
* We feel the ongoing work of Outreach is crucial as relates to the normalization of the conversion process, the education of new Jews and returning Jews, the integration of inter-faith families into our synagogues, and the assistance to inter-faith families dealing with the complexities of multi-faith family situations.
* We appreciate the serious financial situation of the UAHC and respect that difficult decisions must be made. However, we feel such severe cuts in an area of such importance dealing with membership acquisition and retention will result in even more severe long-term problems.
We respectfully request the UAHC leadership to reconsider and amend its decision to eliminate all Regional Outreach Directors.
