Example of the Hamotzi

Said specifically over bread, before we eat it, or generally over food before a meal, Hamotzi is a short blessing.

Below is one example of the Hamotzi before a meal.

Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu melech haolam, hamotzi lechem min haaretz.

We praise You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth.

Hebrew for "blessed are You [,my God]." Introductory words to many Jewish prayers. Hebrew for "brings forth" or "expels," the first unique or identifying word of the blessing over bread ("...brings forth bread from the earth"). Some say this blessing over bread, others recite it as a catch-all before a meal.
