Thank you for sharing your story Rachel. My partner and I are currently preparing for a return ceremony and conversion. Since we have lived together for 12 years and have two children, we thought it would be symbolic to marry at the same time.  But since my partner was not raised Jewish, we do not have any Jewish traditions to go by. Reading your experience has been a huge relief knowing that we are not the only ones trying to figure things out! I hope we are as successful! Mazel tov!
