I have to disagree that Catholics and Jews workship different Gods! It is the same God. Judaism is the father of Christianity; the first Christians were Jews. It is definitely the same God we worship!

Elizabeth,

I suspect the author was referring to Judaism's monotheistic view of God, versus the Catholic belief in the trinity which defines God as three divine persons (father, son, and holy spirit).

I was going to say immigration patterns as well.  Also, there are plenty of Americans of Polish descent and are for the most part, either Catholic or Jewish.  And don't forget the guilt thing (ok, this one is more of a joke)

Another interesting note here is that a lot of Jews (particularly men) marry Asians (usually of Chinese descent, in my experience).  Now I don't know about the US, but in Canada, a lot of Chinese people, especially those from Hong Kong are either Catholic or were educated in Catholic institutions (until recently, the best schools in Hong Kong were run by the Church).  Many, like my parents, continued the tradition when they got to Canada.  I spent five years at a Catholic elementary school before going to an Anglican one until I finished high school (the Anglican schools were, traditionally speaking, more in line with the kind of education they had growing up, one that has more British roots/tradition).

My husband and I have been married for almost 20 years.  He is Jewish, I'm Catholic.  When we met, he wasn't practicing and came from a very secular Jewish family.  When our son was born, he told me it was important for him to have his son learn about Judiasm.  I told him he had better learn it for himself as well.  Now we are members of an Orthodox Kollel.  My son, even though he goes to Catholic school, attends shul every Saturday.  He wants to convert to Judiasm and he will as soon as he is 18.  He will be attending an all boy Catholic school in the fall.  He asked me to knit him some kippahs in his school colors.  We are so proud of him.  His letters of recomendation for entry into this high school were written by his rabbis!

Christians/Catholics worship the same God as Judasim. We have one God and one God alone. The trinity is Judaism it is there in the Old Testament to see. What we see as one is not how God sees himself as one, he can show himself in any form he sees fit as he is God but he is one and the same.  Our human mind cannot comprehend the power  of God Almighty.
