We Jews visit a grave and leave a stone.  Not flowers.

What does the stone symbolize?  What does it mean?  Why do we leave a stone?

Lisa Berenson, who works for the Jewish Cemetery Association of Massachusetts, wrote up an expert opinion on the stone issue, here on our discussion board. It's a way of participating in burial, which is a mitzvah (commandment). There's no particular reason NOT to leave flowers if you want to do that, but leaving stones is a respectful folk custom.
