The question reminds me of the saying." It walks like a duck; it quacks like a duck; it looks like a duck. Yes, it must be a duck."

According to the Gospels, Mark 14:12 tells us that Jesus prepared for the Last Supper on the "first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover Lamb."

If he and his disciples gathered to eat the Passover sacrifice, what else could that meal have been except a Passover seder?

The evidence is not simple. By the first (or prior) day, Mark means the day on which the lambs were sacrificed, which precedes sunset when Passover began. Perhaps Matthew means the same; Luke has the same qualifier: when they immolate the pasch. The Synoptics do not mention the lamb or bitter herbs, etc., but do mention the release of a prisoner Barabbas for Passover (to eat it), and Simon of Cyrene coming in from the fields at midday (when work ended early for lamb sacrifices to begin), and the quote Eli Eli was taken as calling Elijah (who is to return at Passover). The early Christians took it for 14 Nisan, the "eve" of Passover.
