You are a vastly more tolerant and open minded person then I will ever be.  As a Catholic father I have still not accepted my children Bar/Bat Mitzvahs - I attended but did not participate and did not invite my family.  It is something my wife really wanted and though we are still married our relationship suffer greatly from this experience.
