Writing About Illness and Trauma with Dr. Suzanne Koven

January 16 @ 7:00 pm - April 17 @ 8:30 pm

Per session: $10

We will create narratives (stories, essays, blogs, etc.) from experiences of illness or trauma as patients, family members, or caregivers. Writers at all levels, including beginners, are welcome and all voices will be treated respectfully, confidentially, and supportively. At each session, we’ll discuss a short text and do an in-class writing exercise. Participants who wish to share a piece of writing with others will be invited to do so. Some questions we’ll explore include: How do I develop a writing practice? Where do I begin to write about my experience? What are the ethics involved in writing about others? Suzanne Koven MD MFA is a primary care physician and writer in residence at Massachusetts General Hospital. Four Wednesday evenings 7:00-8:30 PM – Jan. 16, Feb. 20, March 20, and April 17.
